| It is wonderful that you had the courage to do this website. I was diagnosed with menieres one year ago. I did not go through gent injections but did go through steroid perfusions and lost most of the hearing in my left ear. I have maybe one good day of week and am now usually constantly dizzy and never know when a full attack will happen. It has gotten to the point that my 4 yr. old son knows how to take care of mommy when she gets sick as he calls it. I have had surgery in the last two months and seemed to get better after the intial recovery period but now I am back to what I was before surgery. I have almost no hearing in my left ear at all now and spend most of my time in bed or in the house for fear that I will have a sudden attack. I am considering a surgery that has a better percentage rate to stop my symptoms but I will lose all hearing in my left ear. I would love to hear from anyone about your experiences and comments. | ||

I just 'celebrated' the first anniversary of my balance nightmare. I have seen two ENTs and an inner ear specialists and I have still not been diagnosed. Through my own extensive search I am 99.9% sure I have Ototoxicity or Gentamicin poisoning. I do not drive. I now walk with a cane because I have fallen down about a dozen times. My symptoms include: Deafness in one ear - Stumbling - extreme fatigue - blurry vision while moving - I feel like I'm carrying a heavy, loose boulder in my head that pulls me to the left my head feels like it weighs 100lbs - I have to have a pillow behind my head while riding in a car or the terrible sensation I feel makes me grit my teeth - My memory is shot. I get up to get something and forget what I was going for before I take the first step. I have left my house keys stuck in the lock when I went somewhere many times . I hate crowds I have a fear someone will bump into me and make me fall. I also feel confused, especially when a lot is going on around me. Gathering my thoughts is impossible, its like trying to gather up a bunch of mice in my arms the minute I catch one another gets away. I used to love to sew and do woodworking, I was very creative, but now I have no clue where to start, nor do I have the energy or enthusiasm. I could go on and on. All this began with double pneumonia in March of 2005. I almost died from the pneumonia and sometimes I wish I had. I look like a drunk, I hate trying to raise my overweight head off the pillow in the mornings (why bother). My family gets very annoyed with me, because you can't make anyone understand this. It has to be experienced to understand. I worked for the same company for 20 years managing their books, now I can't manage my own check book! I have been turned down for social security disability so I can't afford to pay anymore doctors to tell me 'live with it'. Now, after writing all of this I have become very depressed again. Time for another good cry! Thanks for being here Wobblers. I need you! Sincerely Cindy Smith |

| I have been wobbleing since early Dec., but just found out why. I was put on Gentamicin in Oct. 2005 because of an infection in my foot. They said that they would have to watch my Kidney function but nothing about any inner ear or balance problems. Right now I think that I would have been better off if they would have cut my foot off. I hate having to depend on my wife to do the driving for me, and to have to use a walker to get around. Is there any kind of legal action a person can take? | ||

| I am a new wobbler. I am a 14 year veteran of the Owosso Fire Dept. I am a diabetic. After surgery on one of my feet, it became infected. I hospitalized for 8 days was given 4 antibiotics. One was Gent. I was sent home and was on home IV antibiotics for 6 weeks - Gentamicin and Bactrim. After 2 weeks at home I was walking into walls. If I didn't have the walls to hold on to I would fall. I complained to the doctors and they said that we will worry about the dizziness after the infection is gone. I have been off the drugs for 4 1/2 months and I have been through physical theropy. I have lost my career and I worry about loosing my home. I was a Lientenant and a Paramedic and now I am embarassed to be seen staggering down the street. Is this all I have to look forward to? | ||

| I was diagnosed with Gentamycin ototoxicity at the beginning of Dec. of 2003, I have sever damamge in both my inner ears & have been learning to live with this disability since then, I have my good days & then there are days I would like to just cry because I can't stand not being able to walk without looking like a bad drunk. I am so glad I stumbled across this website & I have to say a BIG thank you to Lynn for creating this website so people like me don't have to think there alone in this world, and a BIG thank you to Laura for contacting me & letting me know to get a medical alert bracelet and what to have put on it, it might just save my life one day. To those who have recently found out they have been affected I just want to say it might not go away but in time it does indeed get better and easier to handle. | ||

My sister, Sharla Harvey, left comments on this web site back on 6-18-03. On 2-18-06 she past away from complications caused from Gentamicin Poisoning. During these few years of time she experienced what happens to those who are wrongfully administered the anti-biotic. The family had been warn that not only was her inner ear effected but a possible damage to her organs as well. At the beginning of February of 2006 she entered the hospital with the lost of muscle movement to her upper body. While their it was found that she had a blood clot in her leg. Blood thinner was administered. Than the organs started to bleed and because of the thinner would not clot. The hospital was amazed with the her positive attidude she was having to endure. The family knows that Sharla is in a much happier place now. Yet the family knows that Sharla also wanted to be amonst us as she had high expectations from her on going lawsuit. She was a very giving person. She did not have any children of her own. At her funeral one of the most possitive statments made was from all of her nieces and nephews, 'She was my favorite Aunt'. |

Now i find as i;m getting older i'm losing it. | I was overdosed with gentamicin in 2003. I also have been to doctors within a 700 mile radius from where I live and No One seems to know how to help me. I had to give my whole life up. I have 6 children and 8 grandchildren that I'm unable to spend any enjoyable time with. I fully understand how each and everyone of you feel and I'm very sorry! If anyone knows any treatment in or out the United States I would appreciate the help. | ||

| Was given gentamycin in hospital for osteomyelitis of spine; sent home with PICC after 14 days. Had IV for 4 more months with home care nurse to change dressing. I learned to give medication myself. Developed imbalance, dizziness. Was taken off this drug. Had balance tested at ENT, and was diagnosed with bilateral vestibular damage. This was in Nov 03. I have learned to compensate, but I still cant function. Fortunately I can drive, but walking at night is hard. Washing my hair in the shower with my eyes closed is difficult. I would like to read more from others. Has anyone successfully sued? | ||
